Tennis – Iga Swiatek crowned Wimbledon champion by humiliating Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0

This Saturday, Iga swiatek won the Wimbledon tournament for the first time in her career, winning the final with total authority against the American Amanda Anisimova, with a resounding 6-0, 6-0 victory. This is his sixth Grand Slam title, after his four victories at Roland-Garros and his title at the US Open.

The Polish player, now 24, confirmed her dominance on the women's tour by winning the only Major she had yet to win. She also became the first player from her country to win the prestigious British tournament.

An unprecedented humiliation since 1988

Iga Swiatek has achieved a rare feat in the history of women's tennis: inflict a double 6-0 in a Grand Slam final. Such a gap had not been seen since 1988, when Steffi Graf beat Natalia Zvereva by the same score in the Roland-Garros final. At Wimbledon, a double “bagel” final had not been seen since 1911.

The match lasted only 57 minutes. Swiatek immediately took control, imposing her pace, court coverage, and hitting power. Anisimova, overwhelmed from the first games, never found a solution. She committed 28 unforced errors, won only 35% of her points behind her second serve, and did not have a single break point.

A one-sided final, but a historic performance

Anisimova, ranked 13th in the world and a surprise finalist, had appeared in good form throughout the tournament, notably eliminating Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. But against a relentless Swiatek, she seemed paralyzed by the stakes and physically exhausted. In a press conference, she admitted to having "lack of energy in the legs" and praised his opponent's performance.

Swiatek said after her victory: “It’s unreal. I never imagined I would experience such a moment here on the Wimbledon grass. It’s a dream come true.” With this sixth Grand Slam title, she joins a select group of players who have won at least one Major on each of the three surfaces (clay, hard, grass), a feat that few have accomplished before her.

Iga Swiatek now boasts an impressive 6/6 record in Grand Slam finals, placing her alongside legends such as Monica Seles, who is unbeaten in her first six finals. She also has over 100 Major wins, a feat achieved faster than any other player since Serena Williams in 2004.

This Wimbledon victory could mark a turning point in her career. Long considered a clay-court specialist, she now proves she's capable of dominating on all surfaces. Her mastery of grass, once considered her weak point, now seems complete...
