This Sunday, on the Philippe-Chatrier court, Carlos Alcaraz won Roland-Garros after an epic final, the longest and for many the most beautiful! Facing Jannik Sinner, reigning Australian Open champion and world number 1, the Spaniard won in five sets (4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 10-2). The highlight of this final: a decisive super tie-break, won 10-2 by Alcaraz, who came back from hell after losing the first two sets. This is the first time that a 10-point super tie-break has been used to decide the champion at Roland-Garros. This rule, inspired by the Australian Open, came into effect this year.
An exceptional comeback
The final started strong for Jannik Sinner, who took the first two sets thanks to a controlled game and precise service. Opposite, Carlos Alcaraz, visibly tense at the start of the match, took time to find his rhythm. But from the third set onwards, the young Spaniard gained momentum, rediscovering his explosiveness and creativity to reverse the trend.
The turning point of the match came in the fourth set, where Alcaraz saved three match points while trailing 5-3. He managed to win the tiebreak and leveled the score at two sets apiece. The crowd on Court Philippe-Chatrier was in turmoil.
At 6-6 in the final set, both players were pushed to their limits. For the first time in the history of Roland-Garros, the final was decided by a super tie-break (10-point format). Alcaraz dominated this final deciding game with renewed aggression, winning 10-2.
Fifth Grand Slam for Alcaraz
At just 22 years old, Carlos Alcaraz has won his fifth Grand Slam title, and his second consecutive Roland-Garros title after his 2024 triumph. He has thus confirmed his place among the greatest of his generation.
This victory also strengthens the emerging rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner, now considered the heir to the legendary Federer-Nadal or Djokovic-Murray duels...
