Canal+ was the second most-watched channel in France last night thanks to Liverpool-PSG. An exceptional performance for a pay-TV channel.

Canal+ Foot achieved one of its biggest ratings successes of the season on Tuesday night thanks to the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Broadcast in prime time, the match attracted 2,24 million viewers, representing over 12% of the audience share.

With such a score, the Canal+ group channel achieved a rare feat for a pay-TV channel: securing second place in the evening's ratings, behind TF1 and its episode of Koh-Lanta, but ahead of the major historical channels like France 3, France 2 and M6. Koh-Lanta Meanwhile, it attracted 2,73 million people, which allowed it to retain its top spot in the rankings.

PSG attracts crowds

This excellent result confirms PSG's massive appeal when they play in major European matches. The previous week, the first leg of the PSG-Liverpool match had already given Canal+ an even larger audience, with 2,43 million viewers and a 13,5% market share, which was a season record for the channel at the time.

The return leg at Anfield, even with a slightly lower scoreline than the first leg, remains a major achievement for Canal+ Foot. Attracting over 2,2 million viewers on a premium pay-TV channel demonstrates both PSG's powerful appeal, the enduring interest in the Champions League in France, and Canal+'s ability to transform big football nights into top-tier television events.

A locomotive effect

Beyond the simple figures, this audience also reveals a fundamental trend: as the Parisian club progresses in the competition, Canal+ benefits from a genuine driving force. Previous PSG European matches had already posted solid ratings, but this match against Liverpool clearly propelled the channel to another level in terms of national exposure.
