This is a major change in the French football broadcasting landscape. Omar Da Fonseca is leaving beIN Sports after 14 years with the channel and joining Disney+, where he will continue to commentate on La Liga. According to L'Équipe , the 66-year-old Argentinian pundit will form a new duo with Julien Brun, who has also been recruited by the platform.

Omar Da Fonseca turns the page on beIN Sports after 14 years

A key figure at beIN Sports since its launch in France in 2012, Omar Da Fonseca had become one of the most recognizable voices in Spanish football. His enthusiasm, his expressions, and his partnership with Benjamin Da Silva had been a constant presence during the biggest La Liga matches for over a decade. His departure comes at a time when beIN Sports is also losing the rights to the Spanish Championship. Starting with the 2026-2027 season, Disney+ and DAZN will both broadcast all La Liga matches in France, as part of a three-season agreement running until 2028-2029. Omar Da Fonseca is therefore not leaving his favorite league. He is simply switching broadcasters and will continue his La Liga commentary on ESPN via Disney+.

A new duo with Julien Brun

To partner Omar Da Fonseca, Disney+ has chosen Julien Brun, 48. The journalist has worked for beIN Sports, Prime Video, and DAZN. Having been without a regular commentary position last season, he returned to the microphone this summer on M6 for the 2026 World Cup, where he commentated on several matches alongside Samuel Umtiti. The Julien Brun-Omar Da Fonseca duo will be in charge of the main matches of the Spanish Championship on the platform. Their first match is scheduled for Saturday, August 15 at 19:30 p.m., with Alavés vs. Getafe, the opening match of the season.

All 380 La Liga matches available on Disney+

Disney+ has acquired the rights to broadcast all 380 La Liga matches each season in France, from 2026-2027 to 2028-2029. The matches will be shown live on ESPN within Disney+, with French commentary and at no extra cost to subscribers of the platform. The biggest matches will be commentated by Julien Brun and Omar Da Fonseca. For the other matches, Disney+ will use several journalists, including Alban Lepoivre, who is scheduled to commentate on the Sevilla-Rayo Vallecano match on Saturday evening. Real Madrid will begin their La Liga season on August 26 against Real Sociedad, while FC Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao on August 27.

La Liga changes broadcasters, Da Fonseca remains on the microphone

Omar Da Fonseca's departure primarily marks the end of a long history with beIN Sports. For 14 years, the pundit was associated with the channel's coverage of Spanish football. With La Liga also leaving beIN Sports , Da Fonseca will follow the Spanish league with its new broadcaster. For Disney+, his signing allows them to immediately acquire a personality closely associated with La Liga in France. Alongside Julien Brun, Omar Da Fonseca will continue to commentate on Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, and other major Spanish matches, but now under the Disney+ banner.
