In Pernes-les-Fontaines, in the Vaucluse region, an unusual but serious accident occurred due to a spider suddenly appearing in a vehicle, reports Le Dauphiné Libéré. While driving normally on a departmental road, a driver was suddenly surprised by a spider slowly descending from the interior ceiling of his car, eventually passing right under his nose. Panicked, the driver reflexively tried to move away from the arachnid, causing him to completely lose control of his vehicle.
By suddenly veering off course, the car ended up in the opposite lane, violently colliding head-on with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The particularly violent collision left two people injured: the drivers of the two vehicles involved, aged 60 and 40 respectively. The victims were quickly treated by the firefighters, before being transported to the nearest hospital emergency room.
A missing spider but very real damage
At the scene, the police dispatched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident did not find the spider, apparently the cause of this sudden loss of control. This absence could, however, make it difficult to establish precise responsibilities, even if the accidental theory remains largely favored by investigators. This incident, at first glance unusual, nevertheless serves as a reminder of how concentration at the wheel can be disrupted by unexpected events, even those seemingly innocuous. The authorities regularly urge motorists to remain cautious in all circumstances and to control their reactions to the unexpected.
