15-year-old boy killed on level crossing: 225.000 euro fine requested against SNCF

On October 17, 2016, Nicolas, a 15-year-old teenager, was fatally hit by a regional train traveling at 85 km/h while crossing the Wavrin level crossing on his way to high school.

Nine years after the incident, SNCF appeared before the Lille judicial court for "involuntary manslaughter by a legal entity." The prosecutor requested a total fine of €225, divided between €000 for SNCF Réseau and €150 for SNCF Mobilités, considering that SNCF's "misconduct" contributed to the teenager's death.

The verdict was delivered on the victim's birthday.

The hearing was adjourned, and judgment will be delivered on May 21, which would have been Nicolas's birthday.

This is not the first similar tragedy involving the SNCF. We particularly recall the TGV accident in Eckwersheim in 2015, where the SNCF was fined €2024 for negligence in October 400.
