Sophie Binet indicted after her accusations against Tefal regarding union repression

The general secretary of the CGT union, Sophie Binet, announced on Monday that she has been formally charged with defamation after publicly denouncing "the union repression that is rampant at Tefal." The information was revealed this morning by the union leader, amid ongoing tensions between the company and several union representatives.

Fabien Gay, the editor of L'Humanité, also told France Inter that he had been formally charged with public insult in the same case. According to him, this legal action could result in a fine of up to 12.000 euros.

Tefal confirms that it has initiated legal proceedings

When contacted by franceinfo, Tefal confirmed that it had filed a lawsuit against Sophie Binet and her co-authors. The company stated that it "firmly" contests the accusations made publicly against it and referred to the statements as "serious and erroneous" regarding its internal operations.

The company also specified that the formal charges had been filed as early as March 12. This case comes amid a tense social climate surrounding issues of trade union freedoms and working conditions, as several organizations have been denouncing pressure exerted against certain employee representatives within the industrial group for years.
