Saint-Malo: Two youths sentenced after vandalizing more than 60 cars in Paramé

For several months, between February and June 2024, the Paramé neighborhood of Saint-Malo experienced a worrying rhythm of nights punctuated by vandalism. On Thursday, March 27, two young men from Saint-Malo, aged 18 and 20, appeared before the criminal court for aggravated theft and serial destruction: they were accused of 67 counts in total.

The vandalism mainly targeted cars parked in the same areas. Residents regularly discovered their vehicles damaged: broken windows, scratched bodywork, broken windshield wipers, or torn hoods. Inside, the perpetrators didn't just steal money; they also made off with clothing, handbags, chargers, and even bottles of champagne. Other, more gratuitous acts of vandalism also took place, such as graffiti on trash cans, stadium stands, and bus shelters.

400 hours of community service

Tried this Thursday, the two young men were each sentenced to 400 hours of community service (TIG). This sentence was considered light by some local residents, who continue to express their concern: "I'm afraid to park my car outside now," one of them confided. After these long months of damage, local residents now hope that lasting calm has returned to Paramé.
