The mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, has unveiled a major action plan to reorganize the after-school sector, which is currently facing a crisis linked to reports of violence in several schools. With a budget of approximately 20 million euros, this plan aims to quickly address families' concerns and ensure the safety of children.
This program includes immediate and structural measures, notably stricter recruitment controls, mandatory training for supervisors, and automatic suspensions in cases of suspected wrongdoing. The municipal government also intends to improve coordination with judicial authorities and child protection services.
Increased transparency and enhanced monitoring
Among its key priorities, the municipality promises increased transparency towards parents, with the regular publication of data on incidents and sanctions. Simplified and accessible reporting mechanisms will be implemented, along with a dedicated hotline for receiving alerts.
The mayor also wants to establish independent oversight of the program and involve families in its overhaul, notably through a citizens' convention. This reform comes amidst strong political and social pressure, as safety in after-school programs has become a major issue in the capital.
