Storms: More than 53.000 homes still without power after a night of severe weather

Violent storms that swept across much of France overnight from Thursday to Friday caused widespread power outages. According to Enedis, 53.000 homes were still without electricity at 7 a.m., primarily in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (25.000 customers) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (20.000). Gusts of wind, locally exceeding 100 km/h, caused numerous trees and branches to fall onto power lines.

The hardest-hit departments are Dordogne (7.600 households), Loire (4.400), and Charente (4.400). Enedis specifies that nearly 3.800 customers also remain without power in the Rhône department and 3.000 in the Ain department. The network operator indicates that its teams are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

The orange alert has been lifted after an intense storm.

On Thursday, Météo-France placed 30 departments in central and eastern France on orange alert due to the risk of severe thunderstorms, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, hail, and heavy rainfall. The storms disrupted the end of the evening at the Lovely Brive Festival in Corrèze, where the site had to be evacuated and the final concert canceled.

The meteorological agency lifted all orange alerts overnight, stating that "the severe storm episode is now over." Despite this improvement in weather conditions, power restoration operations are continuing in the areas hardest hit by the storms.
