Motorcycle licenses have seen a dramatic increase in France over the past two years. According to figures from the driver education sector, more than 230,000 new applications for motorcycle training were registered in 2024, compared to approximately 162,700 the previous year, representing an increase of nearly 30%. This trend is expected to continue into 2025, with many motorcycle schools facing high demand.
This surge in registrations is explained in particular by the temporary opening of funding for motorcycle licenses via the Personal Training Account (CPF), which strongly stimulated applications at the beginning of 2024. Several professionals also mention a deeper change in mobility habits, with a growing interest in two-wheelers in the face of urban traffic jams, the cost of cars and parking difficulties in large cities.
Driving schools under pressure due to the influx of candidates
The surge in registrations has led to a massive increase in the number of tests taken. Off-road practical tests have risen by 17,5% in one year, while on-road tests have jumped by more than 12%. Several driving schools are now reporting longer waiting times to secure a test slot or book driving lessons.
The phenomenon particularly affects young adults, but also working professionals seeking a more flexible mode of transport. Despite costs ranging from €600 to €1,500 depending on the region and training chosen, motorcycling retains an attractive image, blending freedom, practicality, and a passion for motorcycling. This popularity is further amplified by social media and specialized content, which significantly contribute to making two-wheelers more accessible to a new audience.
