Barely six months into the year, France has already recorded 63 femicidesThis figure has reignited concerns among organizations fighting violence against women. According to several data collection groups, the number of victims continues to rise at a steady pace, while 107 domestic femicides were officially recorded for the entire year of 2024.
This latest increase comes amid complaints from associations about insufficient resources dedicated to prevention and victim protection. Several recent cases have highlighted situations of violence that had already been reported to the authorities before the acts were committed.
A worrying rise in femicides in France
If this trend continues at the same rate until the end of the year, 2026 could become one of the deadliest years of the last decade in terms of violence against women. The advocacy groups remind us that behind every statistic are victims, but also dozens of children orphaned as a result of these crimes.
Faced with this situation, associations are calling for a strengthening of support mechanisms, better handling of reports and additional resources to combat domestic and intra-family violence.
