The Ministry of National Education has recorded 255 reports of sexist and sexual violence involving adults in contact with students since the beginning of 2026. This figure, communicated on Monday by the Minister of Education Édouard Geffray before the National Assembly, concerns both schools and extracurricular structures.
According to the minister, 88% of reports concern public sector employees, compared to 12% for the private sector. This data was revealed during the examination of a bill aimed at strengthening the fight against violence against children in school and extracurricular settings.
Sanctions and dismissals every year
Édouard Geffray assured that each report was met with an immediate response, with transmission to the judicial authorities when the facts warrant it, suspension of the personnel concerned and support for the victims through specialized mechanisms.
The ministry also indicates that, in public education, between 35 and 45 staff members are dismissed each year for incidents related to sexual or gender-based violence. In the private sector under contract, between five and seven dismissals have also been handed down over the past two years. These figures come as members of parliament debate new measures aimed at strengthening the protection of students within schools.
