The grief remains palpable following the death of Noahm, a 19-year-old who died on June 2nd from injuries sustained in a violent attack a few days earlier in downtown Metz. A tribute will be paid to him on Saturday during the Metz Pride March, while a gathering is planned for Sunday afternoon in Strasbourg, organized by the Front d'Action Gay collective.
The Metz prosecutor's office announced that the investigation would now also focus on a possible homophobic motive. This is a line of inquiry that several LGBT+ associations have been calling for for a long time since the young man's death.
The investigation is also focusing on a possible homophobic motive.
Noahm was attacked on the night of May 29-30. Seriously injured, he died a few days later in the hospital. Two men, aged 20 and 27, have been charged with murder aggravated by intoxication. They face life imprisonment.
The case has sparked strong emotions far beyond the Moselle region. On Tuesday, the National Assembly observed a minute of silence in memory of Noahm, as well as Lyhanna, the schoolgirl killed in the Gers region, and a gendarme who died in a helicopter crash. For the associations mobilized this weekend, these gatherings will also be an opportunity to denounce homophobic violence and pay tribute to all its victims.
