Some SNCF services are reduced due to the risk of breakdowns related to the heat.

SNCF has announced the cancellation of several Intercités trains on Thursday and Friday due to the high temperatures affecting parts of the country. The company explains that it wants to avoid air conditioning failures on some Corail trainsets, which are considered particularly vulnerable to heatwaves.

The disruptions particularly affect connections between Paris and the Southwest, as well as between Bordeaux and Marseille. Several trains linking Paris to Toulouse, Brive, or Cahors will be cancelled in both directions, while several journeys on the Bordeaux-Marseille line are also cancelled.

Old trains weakened by the intense heat

According to SNCF Voyageurs, the affected Corail carriages undergo regular maintenance but remain less resistant to extreme temperatures than newer trains. The company specifies that these adjustments primarily target services scheduled during the hottest hours of the day.

To minimize the impact on passengers, SNCF states that it has increased the capacity of trains that are still running whenever possible. Customers affected by cancellations have been contacted for several days to reschedule their journeys. A return to normal service is expected by Saturday.
