Heatwave: a major security operation deployed for the Fête de la Musique in Paris

The Fête de la Musique (Music Festival) takes place in Paris on Sunday under heightened security due to the heatwave. The police prefecture has announced the deployment of 4.800 police officers and gendarmes, as well as 2.500 firefighters in the capital and its surrounding suburbs, to ensure the safety of participants.

Authorities have also reinforced rescue resources on the Seine. Ten boats from the nautical brigade and eight boats from the fire brigade will be deployed to prevent accidents and respond quickly in the event of an incident on the river.

Stricter restrictions on the platforms and in public spaces

To limit the risks associated with overcrowding and extreme temperatures, undeclared gatherings, processions, or parades are prohibited on several lower quays of the Seine between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. This measure affects a large section of the riverbanks in central Paris, on both banks.

Furthermore, the consumption of alcohol in public places is prohibited for twenty-four hours, from Sunday at 7 a.m. to Monday at 7 a.m. These restrictions come as 35 departments, including the entire Île-de-France region, are placed under a red heatwave alert, an alert level never before reached in such a large area since its creation.
