Two men suspected of stealing €88 million worth of Crown Jewels from the Louvre in October 2025 told investigators that the alleged mastermind of the operation believed they "could have taken more."
The loot was enormous, but not enough in the eyes of the person who allegedly orchestrated the robbery. According to transcripts of hearings cited by Le Monde, the two suspects questioned last month by investigating judges reported that the alleged mastermind of the robbery was disappointed with the outcome.
The robbery took place in October 2025 at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The thieves made off with, among other things, a jeweled crown worn in the 19th century by Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at €88 million, or approximately £75 million.
The case made headlines worldwide and led to the resignation of the museum director. The two investigating judges assigned to the case questioned the suspects last month, and the transcripts of these interrogations offer unprecedented insight into how the burglary unfolded.
