A new act of violence in the heart of Bordeaux claimed the life of a man late Friday afternoon, March 28. Around 18:30 p.m., a fight broke out between several men of Afghan origin on the busy Place de la Victoire. One of them, aged 26, was fatally stabbed in the chest near McDonald's. He did not survive his injuries.

A premeditated attack?

According to preliminary findings of the investigation, the arrested suspect deliberately targeted his victim, a personal acquaintance. He reportedly admitted the offenses upon his arrest, which occurred without incident shortly after the attack. According to a police source cited by Valeurs Actuelles, the attack may have been linked to a personal and family score-settling.

The suspect was taken into custody for voluntary manslaughter. Investigators from the Territorial Crime Division (DCT) are tasked with shedding light on the exact motives behind this bloody attack.

A shocking scene in the city center

The scene, filmed by several passersby, shows the assailant sitting calmly, a long knife in his hand, facing the victim's body. The footage, widely shared on social media, shocked local residents. A medical-psychological unit was opened this Saturday, March 29, for witnesses and local residents, at the request of Bordeaux City Hall.

As the investigation continues, local authorities fear a rise in community tensions in this sensitive area of the city center, which has already been marked by several violent incidents in recent months.
