A knife attack occurred this Thursday in the center of Amsterdam, near Dam Square, injuring at least five people. Police arrested a suspect, but has not yet released any information about his identity or the motive for the attack.
The attack took place around 15:30 p.m. local time on Sint Nicolaasstraat, near Dam Square, a popular tourist spot. Witnesses reported hearing piercing screams, followed by panic among passersby.
Emergency services quickly deployed significant resources to the scene, including approximately fourteen police vehicles, motorized units, several ambulances and a medical helicopter that landed directly on Dam Square to assist the victims.
Despite the evacuation of the injured, numerous police forces and ambulances remain deployed at the scene. Following this incident, tram services were interrupted, particularly between the square and the nearby capital train station.
