Artificial intelligence French “Lucia”, developed by the Linagora company in collaboration with the CNRS and supported by the State, has been temporarily suspended due to mockery from Internet users.

Launched on January 23, 2025 for a one-month experimental phase, it immediately sparked much mockery regarding the quality of its responses.

Users noticed some notable errors in “Lucie’s” answers. For example, when asked “How much is 5(3+2)?”, the AI answered 17, then 50, instead of 25. Additionally, it stated that “cow eggs, also known as chicken eggs, are edible eggs produced by cows.”

Faced with this negative feedback, the designers of “Lucie” admitted to launching their tool prematurely. They explained that they had been “carried away by [their] own enthusiasm” and had released a “raw” version of the AI, without the necessary safeguards. They also admitted that they had not adequately informed users of the current limitations of “Lucie”, which may have created excessive expectations.

Let’s clarify that “Lucie” is first and foremost an academic research project in its early stages. The developers have stressed that this version should not be used in educational or production contexts. They have decided to temporarily suspend access to the platform in order to rework the AI and better explain their approach.

Despite this difficult start, the designers of “Lucie” say they are still motivated to improve their AI and make it a reliable and transparent tool… But faced with the American or Chinese giants, French Artificial Intelligence seems to be already several trains behind and it will undoubtedly be difficult to catch up…
