The American space agency has shared a composite image of the 30 Doradus nebula, nicknamed "30 Golden Fishes", located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This representation, from images taken by several telescopes, evokes a real stellar bouquet. NASA describes it as a "bouquet of thousands of stars in bloom".
According to NASA, the image is the result of combined observations by the Chandra and Hubble space telescopes, as well as the ALMA radio telescope. Chandra spent 23 days peering into the nebula to study in detail massive stars, binary systems, star clusters, and winds and gases produced by supernovae.
Located about 160 light-years from Earth, this nebula is home to many massive stars and young stars already identified by astronomers. It also contains enough matter to generate new stars for at least 000 million years.
According to NASA, the collected data set provides an essential reference for the future study of X-ray emissions in regions where stars are born.
