A 34-year-old British man was found dead in a luxury villa in Pattaya, Thailand, and his partner, a 21-year-old British national, was arrested by local authorities. The victim's body, discovered in the residence's bathroom, bore multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe he had been dead for several hours before their arrival.
Upon arrival, police found the young woman near the body. According to initial findings, she had cuts on her fingers and appeared to be under the influence of cannabis. A machete approximately 50 centimeters long was seized at the scene. The suspect claims her partner inflicted the injuries on himself, but investigators say they have found several inconsistencies in her statements.
The circumstances remain unclear.
According to Thai police, the couple had spent part of the day looking at engagement rings before returning to the villa, where they reportedly smoked cannabis. Neighbors, who had seen them move into the residence two weeks earlier, reported frequent arguments between the two British nationals.
The British Foreign Office has stated that it is monitoring the case and is in contact with the Thai authorities. The investigation is ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of Thomas David Powell's death and to determine the responsibility of his partner.
