Zazie has announced her intention to file a criminal complaint after political remarks she insists she never made were circulated on social media. The singer is directly targeting Jean Messiha, who the previous day had shared a photograph of the artist accompanied by a lengthy quote presented as an authentic statement. In this now-deleted post, the remarks attributed to Zazie notably called on her fans to stand against the far right.

"I ask my fans to stand against the far right, both for my own convictions and for everyone's freedom. Islamism doesn't exist: the far right is manipulating you.""This is what could be read next to her portrait. Zazie maintains that she never uttered or wrote these words. For the artist, this publication is therefore not a simple mistake or an interpretation of her views, but the use of her identity and image to attribute to her a fabricated political message."

The singer denounces the statements as entirely fabricated.

After being alerted by several internet users, Zazie reacted publicly on her social media account. She explained that fake messages had been circulating in her name for several days and announced that she had decided to take legal action.. "For the past few days, posts have been circulating online attributing statements to me that I never made. This constitutes, at the very least, damage to my reputation and identity theft. I have therefore decided to file a criminal complaint.", she said.

The singer also thanked those who alerted her to the existence of these publications. Her reaction aims to dispel any confusion about the origin of the statement and prevent the quote from continuing to be circulated as a genuine political stance. The message attributed to Zazie was particularly sensitive because it linked her name to a statement about the far right and Islamism. The very direct wording could have led people to believe that the artist had publicly taken a position in the political debate by making statements that she categorically denies.

Jean Messiha deleted the post

Jean Messiha has since removed the message in question from his account. However, this removal has not ended the controversy, as the post had already been viewed, commented on, and shared on social media. Screenshots also continued to circulate after its removal. The false quote thus remains liable to be taken out of context or presented as authentic, despite the singer's categorical denial. Zazie has not yet specified the exact date on which her complaint will be formally filed, nor the legal grounds that will ultimately be chosen by her lawyer. She does, however, explicitly mention damage to her image and identity theft.

The case has now entered the legal arena.

Zazie's announcement has opened the door to potential legal proceedings. Investigators will need to determine the circumstances under which the quote was created, published, and attributed to the artist, as well as any potential liability related to its dissemination. The court will also have to examine the reach of the publication, the number of people who may have seen it, and the possible consequences for the singer's image. For her part, Zazie has clearly denied being the source of the published remarks. Her message leaves no room for ambiguity: she believes her name and image were used to lend credibility to a fabricated political statement and now intends to seek legal redress.
