Patrick Bruel was taken into custody Monday morning as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual assault. The singer and actor is being questioned at the headquarters of the first district of the judicial police in Paris. This questioning follows complaints filed against the artist for alleged sexual offenses, some of which date back to the 1990s and 2000s. The investigation is now being handled by the Nanterre public prosecutor's office.

Several complaints are at the heart of the investigation.

Investigators are to question the artist about various accusations filed in court. Among the cases mentioned are a complaint of attempted rape and sexual assault concerning alleged events that occurred in 1997 in Acapulco, as well as another complaint regarding an attempted rape that reportedly took place in 2000 in Monaco. Other accusations concern two alleged sexual assaults in 2002 and 2003, made by a former employee of Patrick Bruel's record label. A complaint filed in Metz also reportedly concerns events dating back to 2008. Another case involves an alleged rape in 2012 during a film festival in Dinard. These are some of the matters the artist is to be questioned about during his police custody. The investigation will aim to verify the complainants' statements, examine the evidence submitted in the proceedings, and confront Patrick Bruel with the accusations against him.

These events sometimes date back many years.

Some of the accusations relate to events that occurred some time ago, over 20 years. This age can make investigations particularly complex, notably due to the statute of limitations, the search for potential witnesses, and the preservation of physical evidence. Centralizing the cases at the Nanterre prosecutor's office aims to consolidate the proceedings and provide legal coherence to all the accusations against the singer. This step should allow investigators to determine precisely which events can still be investigated, under what conditions, and on what legal basis.

A separate complaint was not addressed during the hearing.

The complaint filed by Flavie Flament for rape, with a request to be joined as a civil party, will not be addressed during this period of police custody. This procedure is following a separate legal process. Patrick Bruel's questioning therefore concerns other matters recently brought to the attention of the justice system and grouped together within the framework of the investigations conducted under the authority of the Nanterre public prosecutor's office.

Patrick Bruel denies the accusations

Faced with the accusations, Patrick Bruel denies the allegations against him. His entourage and legal team reiterate that the artist contests all the charges. The next steps in the proceedings will depend on the evidence gathered during his detention. Following his questioning, several procedural options are possible: release without immediate charges, an extension of custody, a later summons, or potential legal action decided by the public prosecutor's office.
