What was supposed to be a simple meeting ended up sparking a national controversy. During a book signing in Sens, Hinaupoko Deveze, Miss France 2026, was photographed alongside Julien Odoul, a member of parliament for the National Rally.
The elected official then posted a warm message on social media, accompanied by a photo with the young woman. He expressed his happiness at having been able to greet Miss France 2026, describing it as a moment of “proximity” and "simplicity", and even going so far as to call it "Queen of Hearts"But this publication was not well received by the Miss France organization.
The Miss France Committee is demanding the removal of the images
Following this broadcast on social media, Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France Society, sent a message to Julien Odoul requesting the removal of the content in question.
This message reiterates that Miss France is an institution that strives to be strictly apolitical. The management believes that using the image of Miss France in a public context that could be interpreted as political is not permitted. It is on this basis that the request to remove the photos and videos from this event was made.
A decision that has sparked incomprehension.
This request immediately sparked numerous reactions. Over the years, the Misses have often been asked to pose with mayors, local elected officials, members of parliament, or institutional representatives during official trips, public events, or local demonstrations. The Committee's reaction raises a simple question: why should this photo be more problematic than any other?
This is precisely the point that fuels the controversy. In the eyes of those criticizing the decision, the difficulty does not stem from Julien Odoul's status as an elected official, but from his political affiliation with the National Rally.
The question of neutrality now arises
The case now goes beyond a simple photo posted on social media. It raises questions about the neutrality claimed by certain public or media institutions, and about how this neutrality is applied in practice.
On one hand, the Miss France organization claims it wants to preserve the apolitical image of its pageant and avoid any exploitation. On the other hand, some voices denounce a selective neutrality, arguing that by rejecting this type of image with a National Rally (RN) elected official, the Committee is in fact making a highly political decision.
