Gérard Depardieu: 18-month suspended prison sentence requested for sexual assault

On Thursday, March 27, the public prosecutor requested an 18-month suspended prison sentence for Gérard Depardieu, who is on trial in Paris for two sexual assaults committed in 2021 on the set of the film Les Volets verts. The prosecutor also requested a €20 fine, a requirement for psychological treatment, a two-year ineligibility period, and registration in the sex offender registry.

The prosecution denounces a “total lack of questioning”

The two plaintiffs, a 54-year-old set designer and a 34-year-old assistant director, claim that the actor engaged in non-consensual touching. When confronted by them, Depardieu changed his version of events several times, while continuing to deny any criminal intent. The prosecutor's office emphasized the actor's lack of questioning and rejected any notion of a "conspiracy" against him.

The hearing, which lasted four days, was marked by tense exchanges, conflicting testimonies, and the notable appearance of film luminaries such as Fanny Ardant, who came to defend the accused. The verdict is expected in the coming weeks. Gérard Depardieu faces up to five years in prison and a €75 fine.
