The case of parcel bombs sent to several prominent figures took a turning point on Wednesday, October 8, with the arrest of a man suspected of being the sender. The individual, arrested in Puy-de-Dôme, was taken into custody after several days of investigation by the judicial police. Investigators suspect him of having sent three packages from the post office in La Roche-Chalais, in Dordogne, to public figures: MP Manuel Bompard, presenter Estelle Denis, and comedian Élodie Poux. One of these packages exploded last weekend in a La Poste van, causing no injuries but causing serious concern.
A mysterious signature and precise traces
According to initial findings from the investigation, the sender had signed the shipping labels under the name "Laure Loge," listing an address in Davos, the Swiss city that hosts the annual World Economic Forum. This false identity, intriguing for its symbolic reference, had already attracted the attention of investigators. A careful analysis of surveillance videos around the post office proved decisive. Investigators were able to trace the suspect's route using these images, which confirmed his presence at the location where the packages were sent. This tracing work led to his arrest four days after the detonation of the first package.
Low-explosive homemade devices
Bordeaux bomb squads recovered the other two packages before they were opened. According to a source close to the case, the packages contained a "tiny amount of explosive," but enough to cause a local detonation. The simultaneous delivery to three people, all from very different backgrounds, raises questions about the alleged perpetrator's motivation. Investigations are continuing to determine whether this was an isolated act or a broader attempt at intimidation. Investigators are also seeking to establish a possible link between the suspect and the Dordogne region, where the packages were sent, while he resided in another department. The man, still being questioned by investigators this Wednesday evening, could be brought before an investigating judge in the coming hours. The recipients have been placed under enhanced protection during the investigation.
