On an official visit to Réunion Island, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie , visited the North Addiction Unit of the University Hospital to discuss addiction prevention and treatment with healthcare professionals. A physician by training, the Seychellois head of state was accompanied by First Lady Véronique Herminie, Minister of Homeland Security and Civil Affairs James Camille, as well as representatives of the French authorities and the Regional Health Agency.

During this visit, the university hospital teams presented their organization for the care of patients suffering from addictions. Discussions focused on medical practices, the monitoring of individuals facing addictive disorders, links with medical, social, and community-based organizations, as well as support for patients also presenting with psychiatric disorders or social difficulties.

A regional partnership in public health

University hospital officials highlighted a comprehensive approach based on prevention, care, rehabilitation, and support for the families of those affected. They also emphasized the importance of coordination among the various stakeholders in the healthcare system to provide tailored responses to the diverse situations encountered.

Through this meeting, Reunion Island and the Seychelles reaffirm their commitment to strengthening their health partnership. The goal is to promote the sharing of experiences and expertise in order to provide more effective solutions to addiction issues, which affect the entire region.
