Reusable menstrual products: reimbursement effective from the start of the school year

The government has announced that reimbursement for reusable menstrual products will be implemented starting this fall. This measure, adopted three years ago but still awaiting implementation, will apply to women under 26 and those experiencing financial hardship.

In total, approximately 6,7 million people are expected to benefit from this program, according to authorities. The stated objective is multifaceted: to combat period poverty, support purchasing power, and encourage the use of more sustainable solutions such as period underwear or reusable menstrual cups.

A social and ecological measure

This reimbursement is part of a broader policy aimed at improving access to feminine hygiene products, which are still considered expensive by some. It also addresses environmental concerns by promoting reusable alternatives to disposable products.

Long awaited by associations and health stakeholders, this measure marks a step in recognizing the issues related to rules, both socially, health-wise and economically.
