The fourth edition of Itinér'Air, a national campaign dedicated to the prevention of respiratory diseases, was officially launched on Wednesday in Bois-Colombes, in the Hauts-de-Seine department. This nationwide tour aims to raise public awareness of the challenges related to asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), two conditions that affect millions of people but remain largely unknown and underdiagnosed.
Led in partnership with several respiratory health organizations, the program aims to strengthen early detection through field campaigns and free testing. Organizers are particularly concerned about the lack of information surrounding spirometry, a test used to measure respiratory capacity. According to data presented at the launch, more than half of French adults have never heard of this test.
A tour of several major French cities
The campaign's promoters aim to put respiratory prevention back at the heart of public health policies. They emphasize the importance of identifying breathing problems more quickly to avoid complications that are often serious for patients. The associations involved in the initiative also point out that chronic respiratory diseases continue to increase due to smoking, pollution, and the aging population.
The new edition of Itinér'Air will notably visit Blois, Toulouse, Bayonne, Reims, and Rouen between June and December. Since its inception, the campaign claims to have already conducted several thousand spirometry tests in various French cities to facilitate faster diagnosis of chronic respiratory diseases.
