Dyslexia: an app soon to be reimbursed to support children aged 7 to 11

A new step has been taken in the management of dyslexia. The French National Authority for Health (HAS) has given a favorable opinion for the reimbursement of Poppins, a therapeutic application for children aged 7 to 11 with this learning disorder. Coverage by the national health insurance system is expected from September 2026, upon prescription from a doctor or speech therapist.

Developed in collaboration with around one hundred speech therapists, the app offers short, fun activities designed to strengthen reading, decoding, and memorization skills. Its use is limited to 20 minutes per day, three to five times per week, and the child's progress can be monitored by parents and healthcare professionals.

A complement to rehabilitation

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) emphasizes that Poppins does not replace speech therapy sessions. The app is designed to complement traditional speech therapy by allowing children to practice more regularly. A clinical study cited in the report shows an average improvement of 4,67 words read correctly in two minutes among children using the app in conjunction with speech therapy.

Reimbursement will be limited to children diagnosed with dyslexia between the ages of 7 and 11. The prescription will be valid for three months and can be renewed if the healthcare professional deems it necessary. While initial results are considered encouraging, the HAS (French National Authority for Health) is still awaiting further data, particularly on the app's impact on reading comprehension in the longer term.
