Météo-France has placed 35 French departments on red alert for extreme heat this Sunday, June 21, while 45 others remain on orange alert. The weather forecast predicts exceptional temperatures, with peaks potentially reaching 41°C in some areas. This situation coincides with the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival), forcing authorities to implement restrictive measures to prevent any public health incidents.

Alcohol is prohibited during the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival).

Prefectural decrees will prohibit the consumption of alcohol in public spaces in the 35 departments under red alert during the June 21st festivities. This decision aims to limit the risks associated with the combination of high temperatures and alcohol consumption, which is particularly dangerous during a heatwave. The meteorological services are also maintaining a thunderstorm warning for 10 departments this Saturday.

Risks to infrastructure and transport

The ongoing heatwave could have significant consequences for infrastructure and networks. Météo-France warns of potential power and telephone outages affecting distribution networks, as well as possible disruptions to air, rail, and maritime transport. Road traffic is also likely to be disrupted throughout the affected area.
