Several LGBT+ rights organizations have filed a complaint with the Paris prosecutor's office denouncing the practices of the Meta group, accused of tolerating offensive and discriminatory remarks on its platforms. The complaint also targets the founder and CEO of the American giant. Mark Zuckerberg, implicated for the recent direction of Facebook and Instagram's moderation policy.
According to the plaintiffs, the group's new policy now allows comments equating homosexuality or trans identity with mental illness, statements they consider contrary to French and European law. They also accuse Meta of failing to remove messages deemed hateful towards transgender people, despite repeated reports.
Practices deemed discriminatory
Beyond the content itself, the associations believe that the group engages in structural discrimination against LGBT+ actors. They cite account closures, a deliberate reduction in the visibility of certain posts, and a refusal to promote content related to this community, which they argue hinders the activities of some organizers and creators.
This legal action comes amid a strategic shift for the American group, marked by a relaxation of moderation rules and the abandonment of several internal diversity programs. Meta has not yet responded to the accusations.
