Media coverage of the farmers' protests has led to significant tensions this week in southern France. Two news outlets, BFMTV and Midi Libre, have reported incidents they consider serious against their teams working in the field, citing pressure and threatening behavior during road blockades.
In the Aude region, BFMTV reports that two of its journalists faced a dangerous situation Wednesday evening, shortly after a live broadcast from a roadblock on the highway linking Narbonne to Toulouse. According to the channel, they were verbally abused and endangered by a piece of farm machinery, amidst heightened tensions surrounding the protests. The broadcasting group has announced its intention to take legal action and expressed its full support for its staff.
Incidents at several dams
BFMTV management condemns the incident, calling it unacceptable, and indicates that it occurred late in the evening when several convoys of tractors were blocking the highway near Carcassonne. At this stage, the authorities have not officially confirmed the circumstances, while traffic gradually returned to normal the following day.
For its part, the daily newspaper Midi Libre reports separate incidents in Béziers, where several of its journalists were allegedly threatened and intimidated during another roadblock. The newspaper mentions a vehicle being immobilized and pressure being exerted following articles published about previous actions. These reports come as the agricultural mobilization spreads across several regions, in a sometimes tense atmosphere between protesters and the media.
