Olivier Faure has made his decision. The first secretary of the Socialist Party will announce his candidacy for the left-wing primary organized for the 2027 presidential election this Sunday evening on TF1's 20 p.m. news.

The MP for Seine-et-Marne informed Socialist MPs of his decision via an internal email channel late Saturday night. "I have decided to run in this primary. I will announce it tomorrow on TF1's 20 p.m. news," he wrote to them, according to a message seen by AFP.

Faure joins Glucksmann, Royal, Brun and Guedj

This candidacy was widely expected. In recent days, Olivier Faure had repeatedly called for unity among the social-democratic left and the Greens, stating in particular that there was "no possible victory without the Greens." His closing speech at the Socialist Party's summer conference in Blois also had the feel of a campaign launch.

The Socialist Party leader thus joins an already hotly contested primary, alongside Raphaël Glucksmann, Ségolène Royal, Philippe Brun, and Jérôme Guedj. His entry into the race promises, in particular, to structure the balance of power with the leader of Place Publique, who has already garnered several important endorsements within the Socialist Party.
