Sébastien Chenu believes that Gabriel Attal will eventually withdraw in favor of Édouard Philippe

Sébastien Chenu reacted strongly to the announcement of Gabriel Attal's candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. The vice-president of the National Rally stated on France Télévisions that the former Prime Minister would not maintain his candidacy until the end.

According to the MP from the North, Gabriel Attal would eventually step aside "by autumn" behind Édouard Philippe, who has already declared his presidential candidacy since 2024. Sébastien Chenu believes that the two men represent "two sides of the same coin" within the Macronist bloc.

A political battle has already begun for 2027

The RN official also gave a very critical assessment of Gabriel Attal's time at Matignon, calling him a "very bad Prime Minister" and accusing him of having worsened the public deficit during his term.

The official announcement of Gabriel Attal's candidacy now opens up a more visible rivalry between several figures in the presidential camp with a view to 2027. In opinion polls, the National Rally currently appears to be leading in voting intentions, pushing the various sensibilities of the center and the majority to look for a candidate capable of establishing himself as the main opponent of the RN in the first round.
