Placed in police custody on April 2nd in Paris for "apology for terrorism," due to a message posted in late March on the X network mentioning a former member of the Japanese Red Army involved in a deadly attack in Israel in 1972, MEP Rima Hassan (LFI party) saw her hearing take an unexpected turn. During a search of her personal belongings, suspicious substances were mentioned, leading to the opening of a separate investigation for drug possession.
This Thursday, the elected official's lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, announced the dismissal of this procedure. According to the results of a toxicological analysis carried out on April 4, no narcotics were identified in the sealed evidence. The analyses only revealed the presence of legal CBD, with minute traces of THC, compatible with this type of cannabis-derived product.
The rapid dissemination in the press of information suggesting the presence of drugs fueled the controversy during police custody. The defense is now denouncing "false information" and leaks that damage the MEP's reputation. The Minister of Justice has referred the matter to the General Inspectorate of Justice, and an investigation has been opened to shed light on these disclosures.
