MEP Raphaël Glucksmann wants to unite the “democratic and republican” left for the 2027 presidential election, while clearly ruling out any alliance with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. A guest on France Inter radio on Wednesday, the leader of Place Publique stated his intention to build an alternative.
The former lead Social Democrat candidate for the European elections explains that he is giving himself another three months to decide on a possible presidential candidacy. He believes that his political movement represents "the only space capable of winning" against the National Rally.

Raphaël Glucksmann believes the differences with Jean-Luc Mélenchon are too significant to consider a coalition. According to him, the leader of La France Insoumise would be incapable of defeating Jordan Bardella in a presidential runoff.
At the same time, the MEP is opening the door to voters from Macron's camp, believing that a victory in 2027 will require a broader coalition around democracy, Europe, and the ecological transition. This stance comes on the eve of the release of his book. We still wantin which he sets out his political vision less than a year before the presidential election.
