Prisca Thévenot calls for avoiding "squabbles" between Gabriel Attal and Édouard Philippe

MP Prisca Thévenot, a close ally of Gabriel Attal, called on Saturday for avoiding "petty remarks" and "squabbles" between the candidates of the central bloc in the 2027 presidential election. A guest on franceinfo, she refused to fuel the emerging rivalry between the former Prime Minister and Édouard Philippe.

This stance comes the day after Gabriel Attal officially announced his candidacy for the presidential election. A few hours earlier, Édouard Philippe had stated in the press that "the presidential election is not a beauty contest," contrasting his more "serious" style with the highly publicized campaign appearances of the Renaissance leader.

An acknowledged rivalry, but without a break.

Prisca Thévenot insisted that Horizons and Renaissance remained political partners despite this internal competition for 2027. According to her, the different components of the presidential majority continue to work together with the objective of avoiding a second round between the National Rally and La France Insoumise.

The MP for Hauts-de-Seine also commented on the controversy surrounding MP Charles Alloncle, following the publication of photos showing him with his parliamentary assistant. She supported Yaël Braun-Pivet's decision to refer the matter to the National Assembly's ethics officer in order to "shed full light" on the situation.

Since 2017, the law has prohibited parliamentarians from employing their spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner as a parliamentary assistant, following the case involving François Fillon and his wife Penelope Fillon.
