Presidential election 2027: François Baroin maintains the mystery and considers the absence of a Gaullist candidate "inconceivable"

François Baroin is making headlines again as the presidential election approaches. Invited to the summer school of the Laboratoire de la République in Sens, the LR mayor of Troyes continues to fuel doubts about a possible candidacy in 2027 and insists on the necessity, in his view, of having a clearly Gaullist candidate in the race.

Having kept a low profile for several months, François Baroin used the start of the political season to put local issues back at the heart of his discourse. Alongside figures such as Xavier Bertrand, Carole Delga, and Hervé Marseille, he denounced an overly centralized French model and called for giving more responsibility to local authorities. For him, this issue must become one of the major themes of the next presidential campaign.

Greater autonomy for local authorities

François Baroin is advocating, in particular, for genuine fiscal autonomy for municipalities, which he believes has been weakened by the abolition of the housing tax. He wants to restore a direct link between residents and the funding of local public services, arguing that homeowners, tenants, and visitors alike should be able to contribute to the expenses of the areas they serve.

The question that is already stirring up the right remains: will François Baroin himself be a candidate? The former minister is still not ruling it out, and his entourage insists that he is "considering it." His return to Sens, just a few months before the election, is therefore fueling speculation, especially as candidacies are already multiplying on the right and in the center.
