Popularity is declining for Macron and Lecornu, under pressure from the energy crisis and the international context

The popularity rating ofEmmanuel Macron The approval rating of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu fell in April, according to an Ifop poll published Sunday. This decline comes amid the war in the Middle East and rising fuel prices, two issues of great concern to the public.

The President of the Republic lost one point, reaching 22% approval, ending a period of slight improvement linked to his activism on the international stage. This decline, however, remains limited compared to that recorded by his head of government.

Sébastien Lecornu has indeed recorded a more marked decline of four points, falling to 32% favorable opinions, his lowest level since his arrival at Matignon in October 2025. This fall is explained in particular by tensions around the cost of fuel, which has become the main subject of concern for the French according to the study.

Faced with rising fuel prices, the government has called on distributors to pass on the recent drop in oil prices. It also raised the possibility of regulating profit margins if the situation does not improve, without, however, announcing any direct aid measures for consumers.

Conducted online from April 8 to 16 among more than 2,000 people representative of the French population, this survey reflects a climate of uncertainty where everyday economic issues take precedence over diplomatic matters.
