Nelson Chaudon (RN) takes the helm of the Beaucaire Terre d'Argence agglomeration after a close vote

On the evening of Thursday, April 16, the election of the president of the Beaucaire Terre d'Argence Community of Municipalities (CCBTA) held the room in suspense, as the majority seemed to hang by a thread. Facing the incumbent, Juan Martinez, the left-wing mayor of Bellegarde, The RN mayor of Beaucaire, Nelson Chaudon, finally won with 18 votes against 16, out of 34 voters (with proxy for an absent elected official). A clear score, without being overwhelming, which confirms that the local balances have shifted, and not just a little, since the previous intercommunal battle where the presidency was already decided by two votes.

A presidency that has a significant impact on the territory

Behind this election lies more than just a seat: the presidency of an inter-municipal body means having a firm grip on day-to-day decisions, investments, and a kind of political compass for the entire region. In his first address, Nelson Chaudon promised "to ensure that each municipality is treated equally" and stated his intention to offer a vice-presidency to each mayor, "as is the tradition." Following this, the election of the vice-presidents signaled the new balance of power: the mayor of Fourques, Alain Fouque, candidate for first vice-president, was elected with 20 votes, 11 blank ballots, and 3 invalid ballots.
