Three Marseille police officers have filed a complaint for contempt against Sébastien Delogu, a member of parliament for La France Insoumise representing the Bouches-du-Rhône department. The officers were responding to a call at the MP's residence to arrest a suspect in an investigation into the theft of a luxury watch. An altercation reportedly broke out between the officers and the elected official.
According to a police source, Sébastien Delogu allegedly obstructed the intervention and declared that he was "the Republic." The Marseille public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to establish the exact sequence of events. At this stage, the accusations made by the police are disputed by the member of parliament and have not yet been examined by a court.
The MP's lawyer announces a complaint against the police officers
Attorney Yones Taguelmint offers a very different version of events. According to him, his client was returning home around 15:30 p.m. when he discovered a man preventing the building's door from closing. Sébastien Delogu allegedly asked him to identify himself, without receiving a response, and was unaware that the man was an off-duty police officer. His lawyer states that he intends to file a complaint for physical and verbal abuse allegedly committed by the officers.
This new case comes as Sébastien Delogu is due to appear before the Marseille criminal court on October 21 in another case concerning the dissemination on social media of personal information obtained from stolen documents. The member of parliament was also fined €5,000 in February 2025 for violence committed during a high school blockade. In the current case, he remains presumed innocent.
