The Paris Criminal Court delivered its verdict this Monday in the case of fictitious jobs for parliamentary assistants to National Front MEPs. Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally, is being prosecuted for embezzlement of public funds and complicity. The prosecution has requested a five-year prison sentence, including two years with convertible terms, a fine of 300,000 euros and five years of ineligibility with provisional execution.
Marine Le Pen and eight MEPs have been found guilty of embezzlement of public funds. It will be known in the coming minutes whether a sentence of ineligibility has been imposed, with or without provisional enforcement. If this is the case, Marine Le Pen would be immediately barred from running in the 2027 presidential election, even in the event of an appeal. However, such a sentence would not result in the immediate loss of her current mandate as MP for Pas-de-Calais.
