MEP Manon Aubry officially launched Jean-Luc Mélenchon's presidential campaign for the 2027 election in Réunion. A leading figure in La France insoumise, she made numerous trips and meetings on the island before a first meeting organized in Saint-André.
According to the latest polls cited by the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is credited with approximately 16% of voting intentions nationally, behind Jordan Bardella but close to Édouard Philippe. Manon Aubry emphasized the candidate's electoral momentum in the French overseas territories, recalling that he came out on top in the first round in Réunion during the 2022 presidential election.
Agriculture in Réunion at the heart of the movement
During this visit, the MEP notably visited a farm in Sainte-Suzanne to discuss with local producers the consequences of climate hazards and the future of the European POSEI scheme, which is essential for overseas agriculture.
The farmers interviewed raised concerns about the sector's dependence on European subsidies intended for outermost regions. Several farmers mentioned rising production costs, agricultural losses linked to recent weather events, and competition from imports.
Purchasing power and overseas territories at the heart of the rebellious strategy
Manon Aubry was accompanied by Jean-Hugues Ratenon, a member of parliament from Réunion, and Younous Omarjee, Vice-President of the European Parliament. All affirmed their intention to make overseas issues a major focus of Jean-Luc Mélenchon's presidential program.
The La France Insoumise movement intends to focus its campaign on purchasing power, wage increases, retirement at 60, and ecological planning. The leader of La France Insoumise also highlighted the high cost of living in Réunion, where fuel and everyday goods prices have risen sharply in recent years.
