It's official, Marion Maréchal, Guillaume Peltier and Laurence Trochu are joining their running mate Nicolas Bay (already a member) within ECR.
Political group of European Conservatives and Reformists, it is that of the party of Giorgia Meloni and its 24 elected officials as of June 9.
These 4 ex-Reconquest French parliamentarians are added to the 79 others in the group, compared to 66 in the previous mandate. Great growth for the European right which should double Renew, Valérie Hayer's group allied to the social democrats (Raphaël Glucksmann) and the EPP (François-Xavier Bellamy).
In a video posted on his X account, the former head of the list shares his joy at joining the third political force of the European authorities:
She recalls her priorities for the next 5 years, in particular the defense of European borders, economic freedoms, identity, culture and Christian roots, opposition to green fanaticism.
“A lot of projects that we are going to start from mid-July.”
In this race for integration into political groups, two names are missing: that of Sarah Knafo, 3rd on Marion Maréchal's list and last elected Reconquête who will therefore sit among the non-registered, and the leader of the European populists, Viktor Orban. The latter, against all expectations, will not integrate the Conservatives and Reformists for disagreements over Ukraine. Despite eleven Hungarian elected officials, Fidesz has yet to clarify its position towards Russia. They now have a 6-month probationary period to prove their determination to join ECR.
