Béatrice Bellamy, the Horizons party member of parliament for the second constituency of Vendée, died on Sunday at the age of 59 from cancer, her parliamentary team announced. The elected official died at her home in La Roche-sur-Yon surrounded by her family, after several weeks of her illness worsening.
In a statement, her colleagues praised her "fierce battle" against the disease and paid tribute to a woman who had been involved in public life since a young age. The daughter of a country doctor and a nurse, Béatrice Bellamy began her political career at just 23 years old as a municipal councilor in her hometown of Cugand.
An elected official committed to health and sport
Before entering national politics, Béatrice Bellamy worked in the pharmaceutical sector, notably at Pierre Fabre and then Sanofi, where she held the position of regional director. Elected to the La Roche-sur-Yon municipal council in 2014 and re-elected in 2020, she was particularly involved in issues related to sports and health prevention before her election to the National Assembly in 2022.
Several political figures paid tribute to her after the announcement of her death. Édouard Philippe praised a "courageous" and "caring" member of parliament, while Michel Barnier described her as a woman "courageously committed" to public health and sports issues.
