Two weeks after the death of André Santini, the Issy-les-Moulineaux town council elected his successor on Tuesday evening. Thierry Lefèvre, first deputy mayor for the past nine years, was appointed mayor of the Hauts-de-Seine municipality during a special session convened to organize the transition. The centrist politician received 36 of the 49 votes cast.
Thierry Lefèvre, 67, has served on the city council since 1983. A loyal supporter of André Santini, he worked alongside the former minister for much of his municipal career. His election represents continuity for the current team, which has been running the city for several decades.
A mandate marked by continuity
In his first speech as mayor, Thierry Lefèvre pledged to continue the program approved by voters in the last municipal elections. He also paid tribute to André Santini, with whom he had worked closely in the municipal government.
Alongside his political involvement with the UDI party, Thierry Lefèvre spent the majority of his professional career within the Crédit Agricole group. Born in Issy-les-Moulineaux and father of five, he inherits a city of nearly 70,000 inhabitants deeply marked by the legacy of his predecessor.
André Santini died during the night of May 31st to June 1st at the age of 85. A major figure in the center-right of the Île-de-France region, he had led Issy-les-Moulineaux for over forty years. Re-elected mayor for an eighth term last March, he had also held several national positions, notably as minister and secretary of state, while also presiding for many years over the Île-de-France Water Authority.
