"Provisional execution in matters of ineligibility constitutes a political death sentence," Éric Ciotti told the Assembly, criticizing a measure that, according to him, "deprives a litigant of the possibility of appealing under normal conditions." The Alpes-Maritimes MP indicated that his group would bring forward this legislative initiative as early as June. This was a way of indirectly supporting Marine Le Pen, who has been sentenced to two years in prison under an electronic tag and is currently deprived of any chance of running in the 2027 presidential election.
François Bayrou, president of the MoDem (Movement of the Democratic Movement), also felt on Tuesday that the question deserved to be addressed. "The discussion must be led by parliamentarians," he declared, calling for a reconsideration of a system that "makes heavy decisions immediately enforceable, without effective appeal."
