The Élysée Palace continues its reorganization just over a year before the end of the second term ofEmmanuel MacronFrédéric Rose has been appointed Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic and will officially take up his duties on June 6, according to a decree published in the Official Journal. Aged 52, he succeeds Georges-François Leclerc, who had held the position since last October and was recently appointed Prefect of the Île-de-France region.
This appointment is part of a series of changes within the presidential staff. At the beginning of May, Pierre-André Imbert had already taken over as Secretary General of the Élysée Palace, replacing Emmanuel Moulin, who has since been appointed Governor of the Bank of France. The Chief of Staff plays a central role in the day-to-day operations of the presidency and coordinates the work of the teams working with the Head of State.
From the Yvelines prefecture to the Élysée Palace
Frédéric Rose is well acquainted with the inner workings of the Élysée Palace. Between 2020 and 2024, he served as security advisor to Emmanuel Macron before being appointed prefect of Yvelines. A magistrate by training, he also headed the Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Delinquency and Radicalization (CIPDR).
During his career, he also worked in the ministerial offices of Gérald Darmanin, then Minister of the Interior, and Marlène Schiappa, Minister for Citizenship. His return to the Élysée Palace reflects the President's desire to rely on individuals already familiar with his workings as he enters the final months of his term.
